Shaun White
He just won the gold for the vert category in skateboarding at the summer X Games.and that's not even his "main" sport. He's already gotten the gold at the winter Olympics for snowboarding and 10 medals at the winter X Games (6 gold). Oh yeah I forgot to mention. he's only 20. Shaun White is a rising star in the world of extreme/action sports.
At a BMX/skateboarding show put on by Target® at Peavey Plaza, Shaun White a.k.a. "The Flying Tomato" (because of his flaming red hair) was the main attraction. Many athletes flaunted their sweet tricks and got major air on the halfpipe that was set up. I spoke with Shaun White-o (as he's known in Japan) and I could tell he truly cared about the sport rather than just the endorsements. Although White himself is sponsored by major corporations such as Target, he advised teens to not seek endorsements but rather the talent and to enjoy what they're doing and become exemplary at the sport. What began as copying his older brother skateboarding and snowboarding at a very young age soon blossomed into a successful career lined up with tons of sponsors and fans for Shaun White.
Whether it is Italy, Norway, Japan or Canada, Shaun White has snowboarded all over the world but he has yet to experience a Minnesota winter. He did say that he plans on going to Minnetonka sometime. Through my conversation with Shaun I found him to be very open and considerate. He's not arrogant by any means and could be seen signing autographs one minute and landing a 720 the next. Shaun White is a perfect example of someone who gained major fame but is still true to his fans and the sport itself.
